This book includes 32 full-color plates that are enhanced by the inclusion of explanatory text written by Frederick P. Todd. In addition to illustrating the uniforms worn by members of the American army, these illustrations also show a variety of armaments and accouterments ranging from canteens and musical instruments to calvary horse and packs.

The text that accompanies each illustration provides descriptive commentary on the uniforms as well as background information on the unit or group associated with the uniforms under discussion.
