The English Grammar Workbook for Dummies, 2nd Edition, can be used as a stand-alone textbook, or it can be used in conjunction with English Grammar for Dummies. Both books were written by Geraldine Woods.

In English Grammar Workbook for Dummies, Woods provides a brief overview of English grammar. However the bulk of the book comprises hundreds of problems and exercises that allow you to practice your grammar skills. Answers are provided for all problems. The problems in this book run the gamut from fill-in-the-blank and punctuation practice to correct the essay and rewrite the sentence type problems. What you will not find in this book is any diagraming or circle the verb in the sentence type problems.

If you are using this book as a refresher course, Woods provides sufficient grammar instruction to enable you to use this book on its own. However if your grammar skills are very rusty, or nonexistent, you will probably want to get your hands on her book, English Grammar for Dummies. This text goes into more detail, and provides numerous examples of correct and incorrect grammatical usages. However it offers very little opportunity to practice what you've learn, hence the need for this workbook.

Although this is primarily a workbook, English Grammar Workbook for Dummies also offers many of the same features that you will find in other Dummies books. These include helpful tips, warnings about items that you need to careful of to avoid (in this case) grammatical mistakes, and bit of humor thrown in here and there to liven up what can be a very dry subject. Throughout, Woods provides a concise and easy to understand overview of the basics of English grammar along with helpful and practical exercises to hone your grammar skills.

Whether you use this book alone or in tandem with another grammar text, you'll find that the plethora of exercises contained in this workbook will hone your grammar skills and ensure that you know the ins and outs of English grammar. The only requirement is that you do the exercises! This may not be the most exciting book you ever read, or work through, but it will be one of the more valuable ones. Gaining a firm understanding of English grammar will not only help to improve your written and verbal skills, but it will also help you to do better on most standardized tests, get better grades in school, and may even help you get a job, or better yet, a better job!

While working through this book will not make you a grammarian, it will earn you the right to correct other people's grammar usage. The English Grammar Workbook for Dummies is perfect for high school and college students, independent learners of any age, those learning English for the first time, as well as for anyone seeking to further hone or refresh their English grammar skills. I highly recommend both this book, and English Grammar for Dummies. Happy studying!
