Have you ever read a romance story and thought to yourself, "I could have written that!" Or have you dreamed of writing a book and know that romance is the genre that want to try your hand at? Or are you simply intrigued by the entire writing process and have always wondered how writers go about their work? If so, you just have to read Heart and Craft by Valerie Parv. If you are not familiar with her work, suffice it to say that Parv is a bestselling romance writer whose books have been translated into more than twenty languages and her combined book sales have passed the twenty-six million copies sold mark. She is also the author of the how-to book, The Art of Romance Writing. In short she is more than qualified to write this book. Best of all, she is joined by nine other famous romance writers, all who are willing share the secrets of their trade and who offer advice and encouragement to anyone interested in becoming a romance writer.
The other authors who have joined Parv in writing this book, and sharing their secrets include Robyn Donald, Helen Bianchin, Lilian Darcy, Meredith Webber, Elizabeth Rolls, Kelly Ethan, Alexis Fleming, Daphne Clair, and Jennie Adams. Heart and Craft provides insights on everything from how to plan, or not plan your novel to the various sub-genres that exist under the romance banner. Along the way you also learn about editing your book, adding sexual tension to your story, crafting strong dialogue, how to ensure that you keep the romance at the center of your story, no matter what sub-genre you might be writing in. You'll even find tips on submitting your books to publishers, and how to help market your book once you do find a publisher, and if the worse happens, how to survive the dreaded rejection slip!
Heart and Craft is a fun and informative book to read. Some of the chapters in this book were written by only one author. Most are collaborative efforts, with the various writer's giving their insights on the chapter's topic. The advice that the authors provide is sage, and inspirational. If you've never tried writing a romance novel before, this book will provide you with a solid foundation upon with to build your first book. If you are already a published author, or already well into your first or thirtieth book, you will still find that this book offers a wealth of tips and insights that will benefit even the most seasoned romance writers out there.
